How to Hit a Disposable Vape The Right Way

Two Ways to Use a Disposable Vape Device

Whether you’ve been vaping for a while now or are a new convert from cigarettes, how you hit your disposable vape has a lot to do with how good your vaping experience is and how easy the adjustment is switching from smoking a cigarette to a disposable vape.

How Do You Use a Disposable Vape

Most disposable vapes are draw activated, which means how strong or weak the user inhales dictates the amount of vapor drawn. There are two primary methods for taking a quality hit on a disposable vape. They are Mouth-to-Lung or MTL and Direct-to-Lung or DTL. As a quick clarification, we are talking about nicotine-based disposables. Hemp and THC disposable users tend to go with the second option – DTL.

Mouth-to-Lung Vaping (MTL)

Mouth-to-Lung vaping is probably the more natural and intuitive way to hit a vape. Also, if your transitioning to a disposable vape from lighting up your old cigarette brand, MTL is probably the best approach – at least in the beginning. Basically, with MTL vaping you inhale on the vape mouthpiece almost like you’re sucking liquid through a straw. This will draw the vapor into the mouth. MTL allows you to inhale the vapor more gradually at a pace that you define. It also helps you avoid taking too big of a hit right off the bat. So, the basics of MTL vaping are:

  1. Place the disposable vape’s mouthpiece between the lips
  2. Draw gently as though sucking liquid through a straw
  3. Hold the vapor in the mouth
  4. Inhale slowly into the lungs at a volume that works for you
  5. Exhale

Direct-To-Lung Vaping (DTL)

Like the name says, Direct-to-Lung vaping or DTL is a method that takes the nicotine vapor directly from the disposable vape deep into the lungs. DTL vaping may take a little practice, but it is the vaping method that many seasoned disposable vapers prefer. With this technique, you do not draw the vaper into the mouth and hold it. Instead, you inhale deeply and allow the vapor to pass directly to the lungs. So, the DTL vaping process goes like this:

  1. Place the disposable vape’s mouthpiece between the lips
  2. Inhale deeply directly into the lungs
  3. Exhale vapor

Which Vape Method Works Best?

There is no right or wrong way to vape. However, different disposables work better for different inhaling methods. Some vapes are made with low-resistance coils that make it easier to take a larger hit – which may be better for Direct-to-Lung vaping. Others have a tighter coil that restricts airflow a bit more and requires a stronger draw – which often works better for Mouth-to-Lung vaping. Which disposable vape is right for you is entirely a matter of personal preference. Most disposables come pre-loaded with a 5% nicotine e-liquid, so choosing one is a matter of finding the brand, vape size (bar or pen), number of puffs, coil strength, and flavor that works for you.

Disposable Vapes with An Adjustable Airflow

How Long Should I Inhale When Using a Vape?

There are not hard-and-fast rules to vaping, though if you’re new to the scene, it’s probably a good idea to start with milder inhales. As a general guide, vaping beginners should go for 1-2 seconds on an inhale. More seasoned disposable users can kick that up to 3-4 seconds.
